The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Presentations throughout the day showed how community assistance can range from direct support for people facing hardship to World Humanitarian Day programmes promoting independence and inclusion.

Among the speakers was South Dublin Mayor Cllr. Francis Timmons, who presented the practical assistance provided through Clondalkin Helping Homeless.

Viktor Kozyrev, co-founder of VOLA Enable, presented programmes designed to improve inclusion and quality of life for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Silvia Fani introduced participants to the activities of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, including community projects and responses to emergencies.

Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard established the Volunteer Ministers programme in the 1970s, developing an approach based on practical action and personal assistance. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”

An interactive session later allowed participants to become familiar with several methods used within the Volunteer Ministers programme.

The Dublin event provided a snapshot of the many forms community service can take when groups respond to local needs.
